GCA Education Services awarded Shelby County, Tenn. Board of Education’s custodial services contract
Agreement will provide $13 million in annual savings for school district
MEMPHIS — GCA Education Services, a division of GCA Services Group, Inc., a leading national provider of facility services, has been awarded the Shelby County Board of Education’s (SCBOE) custodial services contract for five years, commencing July 1. The Board, which now governs the separate business operations of Memphis City Schools and Shelby County Schools, includes 235 schools encompassing 255 buildings and amassing over 27 million square feet of space. The school district serves a student population of over 150,000.
After completing an extensive Request for Proposal (RFP) process in which numerous custodial services providers were considered, SCBOE selected GCA, based on its outstanding record of service to over 180 K-12 school districts throughout the U.S., including Shelby County Schools. Now, by contracting its custodial services to GCA for both Shelby County Schools, as well as Memphis City Schools, SCBOE will save $13 million annually, translating to $65 million in total savings over the duration of the agreement.
“GCA Education Services has provided custodial services and supplies as a corporate partner with Shelby County Schools and the Shelby County Board of Education since the 2004-05 school year,” said Mike Simpson, Chief of Operations for SCBOE. “GCA has always been very responsive to our educational needs, receptive to our concerns and able to make quick adjustments whenever needed. This partnership has allowed our District to control the cost of custodial services during challenging economic times, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with GCA,” he added.
“We are honored to be selected as the Shelby County Board of Education’s custodial services provider,” said Bob Norton, Chairman, CEO, and President of GCA Services Group. “We look forward to serving the students and faculty members of this great, newly expanded school district by providing our trademark quality, and by delivering the committed savings that will enable the district to operate more efficiently for years to come,” he added.
GCA will interview potential candidates, including current SCBOE custodians, for its staff.
