Wednesday’s Question:ICANATEX Logo

Is there an industry standard for how much should be spent on custodial supplies per square foot?

Wednesday’s Answer:

No.

How much you will spend on supplies depends on a lot of factors that will differ from one facility to another.

Things such as occupancy, the nature of the use, and what tasks are required. Supply costs are low compared to the labor end so watch that closely.

You can track usage in a particular building and set your own standard for that, and this effort can be helpful, even advisable, in order to catch irregularities such as unusually heavy toilet tissue use.

Theft of tissue rolls is not uncommon and your tracking usage will help keep an eye on costs.
