State Custodian Of The Year Honored

The Nebraska State Custodial Association recently honored Paul Nieuwenhuis as the 2012 Custodian of the Year.

The head custodian at Columbus Middle School, Nieuwenhuis was nominated by Director of Building and Grounds Tom Wunderlich during a June board of education meeting.

BOMA Elects Officers

The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International has elected its 2012-2013 officers.

The following were elected by the BOMA International board of governors: Joseph Markling, managing director of strategic accounts for CBRE Inc., as chair and chief elected officer; Richard Greninger, managing partner of operations for Carr Properties, as chair-elect; John Oliver, managing director for Wells Real Estate Funds, as vice chair; and Rebecca Hanner, principal and senior vice president of Cassidy Turley, as secretary/treasurer.

ACI Welcomes New Employee

The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) named Melissa Bernardo as manager of sustainability programs, a newly-created position that will strengthen ACI's sustainability efforts for the cleaning products industry.

ACI also announced that Brian Sansoni, vice president of communications and membership, will add the title of vice president of sustainability initiatives.

District Recognizes Custodians

The Houston Independent School District (HISD) recently named the elementary and secondary custodians of the year.

The winners include Maria Fuentes, elementary custodian of the year from De Zavala Elementary School, and Hortencia Garcia, secondary custodian of the year from Waltrip High School.

Honorable mentions were given to custodians Vickie Newton from T.H. Rogers Middle School and Vilma Villatoro from Red Elementary School.

ProTeam Announces Contest Winners

ProTeam Inc. kicked off its 25th anniversary with the "Oldest Vac Contest" to find the three longest-lasting vacuums out in the field.

The winners include Alison Fissette of Fissette Floor Sanding, Guy Robarge of FBG Service Corporation and David Hodge of Montgomery County Public Schools.

The winning vacuum from Fisette Floor Sanding has been in the field for 21 years, often attached to a floor sander for capturing fine dust on the jobsite; the other vacuums are 19 years old and 14 years old, respectively, and are still used almost daily.

Sealed Air And WHO Form Partnership

Sealed Air Corporation will participate in the World Health Organization's (WHO) Private Organizations for Patient Safety (POPS) platform.

As part of this major initiative, Sealed Air will bring the expertise of its Diversey Inc. brand portfolio together with leading healthcare professionals to promote best practices in hand hygiene for healthier patient care environments.

As a participant of POPS, Sealed Air will, among other things, collaborate in the alignment of promotional messages for hand hygiene products with WHO recommendations.

UL Environment Revises Standard

UL Environment recently launched its revised third-party environmental standard for odor control products: UL 2796.

This multi-attribute standard will serve as the basis of a UL certification that recognizes environmentally preferable ambient and biologically-based odor control products with strict volatile organic compound (VOC) and fragrance limits.
