Marsh states that it was harder for him to make a profit than he expected and he did not enjoy the responsibility of being a manager of a multi-truck company, so he sold the business and started over as an owner/operator.
He notes that people assumed that success was measured by the size of his company. Not many seemed to believe that he had an enjoyable lifestyle and that he liked what he did for a living.
Marsh adds that residential carpet and upholstery cleaning is ideally suited for owner/operators, and that an owner/operator servicing owner-occupied homes should earn $75,000 to $150,000 per year after expenses if he or she is working their business correctly.
According to Marsh, if you''re struggling as an owner/operator, learn why other owner/operators are doing well. What are they doing that''s different? It''s much easier to get it right on a smaller scale.
