SPRINGFIELD, MO — After retiring from the Air Force in 2002, Ed Lucas decided to start his own business called Medallion Healthy Homes of Missouri Inc., according to the Springfield Business Journal.

However, after Ed lost a battle with cancer in January of 2007, his wife Nancy took the reins and continued the business her husband worked painstakingly to start, the story stated.

Realizing that certification is the make-or-break in the mold remediation industry, and that customers wanted a documented indoor air quality expert, Nancy studied and became a certified mold inspector through the Environmental Solutions Association, the story noted.

Though Lucas has moments when she is unsure if she can continue the business, the good days make all the hard work she and her late husband put into the business worthwhile, the story added.

Lucas said: "Ed is gone, but I am still here and I want to carry on the tradition that he had, that he built this company on. It is, integrity counts ... We want to do our best with everyone we come in contact with."
