WHITTIER, AK — Norovirus, a highly contagious gastrointestinal virus whose eradication requires extensive cleaning of surfaces, sickened 108 passengers and seven crew members of the cruise ship Coral Princess, according to the Anchorage Daily News.
Cleaning crews took precautions to limit the virus'' spread, including deep cleaning the ship, the terminal area and transport busses, and asking anyone showing symptoms to remain in their rooms, the story stated.
Anyone still sick at the end of a Princess Tours cruise is set up with a hotel room where they can ride out the rest of their illness, the story noted.
According to the story, this is at least the second outbreak on the Coral Princess this year.
An outbreak in February sickened 252 passengers in the Caribbean, the story added.
