NEWTON, MA — UGL Unicco, a subsidiary of United Group Limited (UGL), has awarded 14 $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors and college students who are dependents of full-time UGL Unicco employees, according to a press release.
The scholarship program, now in its sixth year, has granted a total of $102,000 to deserving students, the release stated.
This year''s recipients are: Yohan Adan Cabrera; Jamal Vincent Anthony; Monica Ariane Augustine; Brenda Azucena Barrera; Fabian Campoverde; Leslie Carol Clark; Katherine F. Doyle; Elizabeth Hoium; Daniel Bess Howell; Ellen M. Pille; Carly Robinson; Arlene A. Sanchez; Julie Teehan; and Jesse David Wilcox, the release noted.
UGL Unicco President George Keches said: "We are pleased to once again offer scholarships to our employees'' dependents, especially this year. They have demonstrated hard work and dedication, as well as a desire to succeed. We wish them the best for the upcoming year in all of their academic pursuits."
Selected from 59 applicants, the 14 students received the scholarships in recognition of their strong academic skills, leadership qualities, community involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need, the release added.
According to the release, the applications were supported by recommendations from teachers and administrators and were reviewed by an independent committee of higher education and financial aid professionals.
