Wednesday''s Ask the Experts question from a cleaning professional on the International Custodial Advisors Network (ICAN) "Ask the Experts" page: I need to figure out how much staffing it will take to strip and finish over 85,000 square feet of corridor tile once a year. Also, the time to top-scrub the same amount once a year and maintain it during the year by buffing it twice a month.
The answer:
Production rates depend on what equipment and methods are being used.
If you are doing 85,000 square feet of tile, you need to automate the operation as much as possible.
For example, just top-scrubbing that area with a 17-inch rotary will take about 44 man-hours. Probably more when you include solution prep and carrying it to the work area.
Add another 35 hours for the wet vac (14-inch tool) solution pickup. Wow!
