LAURINBURG, NC — A longtime housekeeper at the Laurinburg Comfort Inn recently received the Apex Award from Choice Hotels International for her dedicated service, according to The Laurinburg Exchange.
Clara McDougald, a 20-year veteran at the hotel, will be formally honored at a conference in October, the story stated.
David McLamb, general manager at the Laurinburg Comfort Inn, said: "Miss Clara, as she is affectionately known, has been housekeeping manager at [Comfort Inn] for 20 years. Her leadership skills and consistency has been reflected in comment cards and out GIS scores through the years. Her efforts are reflected in the 12 gold, two platinum and one Inn of the year award. Her leadership positioned this hotel to finish number four in property rankings even though it is 20 years old. Clara is directly responsible for the care of her 100-year-old grandmother and mother. She has been instrumental in the care of a number of nephews and nieces. This loving family is reflected in her love for her Comfort Inn family. She regularly provides transportation for her coworkers and has been the first to offer a helping hand in a crisis."
McLamb presented McDougald with a gift that was supposed to help her get ready to travel — a matching Vera Bradley purse and duffle bag, the story noted.
McDougald, who is revered by past and present coworkers and superiors as compassionate and hardworking, was truly surprised by the award and now cannot wait to attend the conference in October, the story added.
