The August issue of Cleanfax magazine is now available online, featuring Larry Galler''s "Business promises" article.
Galler states that your quotation or estimate is a promise that you will deliver quality products and services and do a specific amount of work for a specific amount of money.
He notes that your promises to employees are stated (or should be stated) in your employee manual — and if you don''t have one, please understand that it is in your very best interest to have one and have it signed by your employees because, if you ever have a legal dispute with an employee, documented policies will work in your favor while verbal ones will be detrimental to your cause.
Galler adds that your business will improve because of the promises you keep. Your reputation in your community will improve. You and your company will be known for its integrity and you will find that it will be easier to compete on quality and integrity rather than on having the lowest price in town.
According to Galler, if you are making good on those promises, congratulations! If some of those promises have fallen by the wayside because of time pressure, money pressure or forgetfulness, then start a "promise checklist."
