Monday''s Ask the Experts question from a cleaning professional on the International Custodial Advisors Network (ICAN) "Ask the Experts" page: I''m a subcontractor and would like to know how much I should charge to scrub and buff a 19,000-square-foot store using a 26-inch autoscrubber and a 27-inch buffer. The contractor is supplying all the equipment and cleaner. I''ll also sweep after buffing. What should I charge for this job by the month?
The answer:
A 26-inch autoscrubber will cover 19,000 square feet in about 1.75 hours and a 27-inch, 1,500-RPM buffer will take about the same time. Sweeping with a 36-inch dust mop will also run about 1.5 hours.
Basically, on paper, it looks like a five- to six-hour job. Now the questions are, how much per hour do you want to earn? Can you vac the floor faster than using dustless sweeping?
