SPRINGFIELD, MA — A maintenance man contracted to perform work on the floors of the Massachusetts State House suffered a freak accident yesterday, according to WSHM-TV.
The man, whose identity remains unknown at this point, was using a grinder while buffing out a floor inside the building when a small stone became stuck in the ignition or starter of the tool, the story stated.
Witnesses say that the grinder kicked back into the inside part of the victim''s leg and would not shut off, the story noted.
According to coworkers, the power tool cut a major artery on the man''s leg and emergency crews frantically rushed to get the victim to the hospital.
The man''s condition and employer are unknown, though company vehicles in the parking lot were registered to West Springfield-based Service Cleaning and Restoration, the story added.
