According to the story, Hooper fell victim to a sudden illness and died over the recent Labor Day weekend, leading to the desire to have the school''s play area dedicated in her honor.
Many feel that Hooper, who worked as a custodian at the Downtown School for ten years, still watches over the school as an angelic presence, the story noted.
Janet Atkinson, principal of the Downtown School, said: "A custodian was the protector, the nurturer. It was someone you would trust to protect. She took care of our school. She was very special and could not be replaced. I miss her every day."
Hooper was excited about the new play area that was under construction and slated to open the Tuesday after the Labor Day holiday, the story added.
According to the story, school officials felt dedicating the play area to Hooper was the least they could do to ensure her legacy of caring, discipline and hard work.
