CHATHAM, NJ —The janitor at St. Patrick''s Church has confessed to brutally stabbing and killing Reverend Edward Hinds over fear that his job was in jeopardy, according to the New York Post.
José Feliciano, who stabbed Hinds 32 times in his face, neck and back with a kitchen knife, had been the janitor at St. Patrick''s Church for 17 years, the story stated.
According to the story, Feliciano, who was arguing with Hinds, left the rectory, found a knife and returned to the room where he killed Hinds as he stood in his black clerical robes brewing a cup of coffee.
Over the weekend, about 300 mourners hopped over yellow police tape and lined up on bleachers in the St. Patrick Church-affiliated Catholic school''s gym for a memorial mass for the priest they called "Father Ed," the story noted.
According to the article, the wounded Reverend reportedly called 911 from his cell phone at 5:11 p.m. to say he was being attacked, but the call cut out before he could say more; when the operator called back, Feliciano picked up and said, "Everything''s fine."
Feliciano attempted to clean up after killing the priest, tossing his blood-stained T-shirt and rags into a black plastic bag and snatching his cell phone before dumping the bag in a garbage can in a park about 50 yards from his house, the story added.
According to authorities, Feliciano became a prime suspect after police tracked a signal from Hinds'' missing cell phone to Feliciano''s home, where the cell phone and murder weapon were discovered.
