INDEPENDENCE, LA — Eight years after the killing of a Piggly Wiggly
grocery store janitor, a jury found a man guilty of the crime, according to WWL-TV
Kelvin Thomas, who faces up to 40 years in prison, was found guilty of manslaughter for shooting Vincent Bacile in the neck, the story stated.
According to the story, in 2001, a 17-year old bag boy at the store named Gary Matthews hid two accomplices, Kelvin Thomas and Christopher Johnson, in the store''s attic with the intention of robbing the grocery after it closed.
While presumably attempting to stop the robbery, Bacile, before being fatally wounded from a gunshot, was hit with a crowbar, the story noted.
Matthews pled guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery and agreed to serve an eight-year prison sentence; Johnson pled guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 25 years in jail, the story added.
According to the article, both Matthews and Johnson agreed to testify that Thomas was the triggerman who shot Bacile.
