Tuesday''s Ask the Experts question from a cleaning professional on the International Custodial Advisors Network (ICAN) "Ask the Experts" page: What is the most effective way to remove old gum from concrete stairs and sidewalks?
The answer:
Use a pressure washer with a narrow fan spray tip. The hot water from a 1,200 to 1,500 pounds of pressure per square inch (PSI) truckmount pump works well.
Get the right angle, and the hot spray will quickly peel the gum off the walkway.Lynn E. Krafft, ICAN/ATEX editor, lekrafft@juno.com.
