JAMES CITY, FLOne Source Landscape & Golf Services, a company owned by ABM Industries Inc., will lay off 253 employees December 31 after their contract with Busch Gardens ends, according to the Daily Press.
Busch Gardens Tampa and Busch Gardens Williamsburg, which will perform their own grounds maintenance beginning in 2010, is ending a 30-year contract with One Source, the story stated.
According to representatives from Busch Gardens, "The decision to end the multi-year contract was based on the best business practice for the park and does not reflect the quality of work performed by the contractor."
Busch Gardens, which recently announced it would sell its 10 theme parks to The Blackstone Group for $2.3 billion in cash and up to another $400 million in future profit, says more than 130 grounds maintenance positions will be filled after the acquisition, the story noted.
It is unclear how much money will be saved by moving Busch Gardens'' grounds maintenance to an in-house operation, the story added.
According to the article, One Source employees are highly encouraged to apply for the soon-to-be-available positions.
