DALTON, GA — The Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) has received a 2009 Business Achievement Award from the Environmental Business Journal in recognition for its work with post-consumer carpet recycling, according to a press release.

According to the report, CARE diverted over 1.3 billion pounds of carpet from landfills since 2002, resulting in reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 1.2 million metric tons in 2008.

CARE Executive Director Georgina Sikorski said: "It is gratifying to be recognized by an organization committed to environmental business. The three aspects of sustainability – environmental achievement, social responsibility and economic strength – must work together for success, and I''m happy to see CARE recognized for being strong in all three areas."

The award will be presented at Environmental Business Journal''s eighth annual Environmental Industry Summit on March 3, the release added.
