MUKILTEO, WA — An e-mail survey conducted in January found varying opinions among carpet cleaning technicians on the use of portable versus truckmount extractors, according to a press release.
According to the release, the survey, conducted for truckmount manufacturer Hydramaster Corporation, found that 64 percent of the respondents use a portable extractor and 36 percent use truckmounts.
A total of 156 people either started or completed the survey, which was sent to about 1,000 carpet cleaning technicians via e-mail, the release stated.
In addition, the survey found that more than half of technicians purchased their equipment, 10 percent leased their equipment and the rest were provided equipment by their employers, the release noted.
According to the release, most of those with truckmount extractors used them in residential settings, while the majority of those with portable extractors used theirs in commercial office buildings.
Wayne Boon, director of sales at Hydramaster, said: "The survey seems to indicate that users should base [their] decision on selecting a portable or truckmount on their needs and goals as well as the types of customers they serve."
