SALT LAKE CITY — WAXIE Sanitary Supply, America''s largest family-owned distributor of sanitary maintenance supplies, is pleased to announce that the company''s inventory center located in Salt Lake City has earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.

The building was awarded LEED certification for a new construction project for its sustainable design and construction features.

"With sustainability in mind, we built this new facility using a design that provides low impact on the environment and an enhanced working environment for our employees," says Charles Wax, president of WAXIE.

The sustainable design choices incorporated into the project include features that will contribute to reductions in energy and water usage and better indoor environmental quality for building occupants. And during construction, a significant amount of the materials that were chosen were either sourced regionally, contained recycled content or were reused from the previous inventory center — and almost all of the construction waste (98 percent) was diverted from the landfill.

In addition to these sustainable design and construction features, the project earned

Innovation In Design Credits for using signage to educate occupants and visitors on the sustainable features of the building, and for adopting a written Green Cleaning Policy.

This Green Cleaning Policy was contributed by the company''s GPS Green Partner Supportâ„¢ program, a comprehensive approach to implementing an effective green cleaning program.

WAXIE has a long history of ties to the Utah region, and this new facility signifies the company''s commitment to the community. By building a facility that provides superior indoor environmental quality for its occupants and also reduces environmental impacts, this LEED certified building will help contribute to the company''s mission to contribute toward a better community for all valued customers and employees.
