— The ISSA
has announced the approval by the U.S. Green Building Council
(USGBC) for the ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard
''s (CIMS) Green Building (GB) criteria and designation as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED-EBOM) resource, according to a press release
According to the release, the designation reinforces the CIMS-GB standard as the leading green-cleaning management certification program for cleaning companies.
ISSA Director of Facility Service Programs Dan Wagner said: "Securing the support of the USGBC further validates CIMS-GB as the leading green certification for organizations in the cleaning industry. We certainly anticipate that such support will accelerate the growth of the program, especially considering the value it provides both the cleaning organizations who seek certification, as well as the building owners, facility managers and other end users who rely on it in selecting a service provider who is capable of meeting their sustainability needs and assisting them in securing LEED credits."
CIMS-GB, introduced last October, augments the CIMS standard to focus on the providing of environmentally friendly cleaning service to customers and to assist companies in securing credits under the LEED-EBOM Green Building Rating System, the release stated.
So far, 18 building service contractors (BSCs) and in-house cleaning service providers have become certified under both CIMS and CIMS-GB, and a list of the organizations are available here
