MONTGOMERY, AL — This week, Dozier Elementary School received a thorough cleaning while classes were suspended for spring break, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.
A team of mold specialists from EnviroTek LLC were brought in to properly clean and remediate a suspected mold outbreak dating back to last summer, the story stated.
An air quality test was taken in February that reported "normal" levels of mold spores inside Dozier Elementary School, the story noted.
According to the story, the work performed by EnviroTek is only the beginning of a planned set of tasks to address the mold issue, which includes replacing the school''s heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system this summer.
Larry Hendrick, president of EnviroTek, said: "We are hand cleaning all the touch points in the school — including desks, bathrooms, doors and chairs — with an antimicrobial chemical that kills both bacteria and mold spores. It''s also good for killing superbugs like methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a form of staph."
The EnviroTek team replaced carpeting throughout the school, sanitized the building with an antimicrobial fogging chemical, recycled the air numerous times and performed additional air quality tests to ensure the mold issue is being properly addressed, the story added.
