BARBOURVILLE, KY — A woman employed by a company contracted to perform cleaning services to Forcht Bank was arrested after being charged with stealing from the financial institution, according to WLKY-TV.
Jordan Smith was charged with stealing at least $21,224 in coins from two branch locations of Forcht Bank, the story stated.
Tallies of coins repeatedly came up short, and after the accuracy of the coin tally machine was verified, suspicions arose that Smith might have a hand in the incidents, the story noted.
According to the story, Smith allegedly stole $200 to $500 worth of coins at a time before converting them into paper money at a public coin counting machine.
According to the story, Smith told police she had gotten into a financial bind, which drove her to steal the coins — presumably because she felt the coins would not be noticed as quickly as paper money.
Smith, who was caught on video surveillance pocketing the change, is currently being held in the Knox County Detention Facility on $25,000 bond, the story added.
