PHILADELPHIA – About 200 custodians have been authorized to strike, affecting 22 Philadelphia public schools, according to WHYY-TV.
Since the dispute started, each side has been accusing the other of using scare tactics, stated the report.
The contract employees, working for Team Clean, have argued that they make significantly less than their counterparts who are employed by the School District of Philadelphia, continued the report.
According to Valerie Long, vice president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 32BJ, management is using illegal scare tactics to keep workers from speaking to union representatives.
"It''s really gotten stalled because of this harassment of our union members. It really just slows things down and makes workers afraid to take action," noted Long.
Team Clean, stated the report, accuses the union of using scare tactics to get workers to authorize a strike.
