School administrators seek grants to perform summer maintenance

MT. VERNON, IL — Administrators from Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80 are hoping to secure grants needed to perform summer maintenance to several buildings, according to the Register-News.
Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80 Superintendent Dr. Kevin Settle is waiting for applications to be available for two dollar-for-dollar matching grant programs through the Illinois Fiscal Year 2010 Capital Bill, the story stated.
According to the story, the first grant is the School Maintenance Project Grant, which provides up to $50,000 for small repair and maintenance projects while the second grant is the School Energy Efficiency Project Grant, which provides up to $250,000 for energy efficiency projects in schools.
Both grants are to be distributed to winning districts over the next three fiscal years, the story noted.
Necessary maintenance projects in Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80 buildings include: Painting lockers in both locker rooms at Zadok Casey Middle School and replacing carpet with tile, replacing broken concrete at the J.L. Buford Intermediate Center and the replacement of a rooftop heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system at Zadok Casey Middle School, the story added.
