Derry Strong Receives 2010 M. Dennis Jensen Award
Wood Dale, IL – Disaster Kleenup International, Inc., North America''s largest disaster restoration contracting organization, today announced that Derry Strong of Moore Restoration of Indianapolis, IN was presented with the 2010 M. Dennis Jensen Award at the annual DKI National Member Meeting.
The M. Dennis Jensen Award is given in "recognition of unique contributions by an individual to the DKI organization and its membership." Candidates are generally drawn from the DKI membership. The criteria used to identify a deserving award recipient include a commitment to maintaining the highest level of performance within their own company, a commitment to the success of the DKI membership as a unified body, a commitment to the formal education of all DKI members, involvement in greater industry initiatives, and identifiable contributions that advance the DKI organization forward.
Strong became involved in DKI as a partner of DKI Member company, INEX Restoration of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada in 1990. After working to single-handedly recruit a dozen new Canadian members and create the very first DKI Member ''Chapter'' (the Ontario Chapter), Strong was recruited by the DKI corporate entity in 1991 to bring his enthusiasm and creativity to the larger North American market as DKI’s executive director, and ultimately its president.
With Strong''s hiring, the company immediately moved to Ontario from the Washington DC metro market, and later moved with Strong to Indianapolis in 1996. Under Strong’s leadership, DKI introduced its first conference and trade show, its first claims program, its first technology platform – GCAS, the Global Communication Access Program, created four additional chapters, and welcomed its 100th member to the organization.
Strong left the organization in 2002 after a full decade at the helm, thinking he had given all he could to the organization and the industry. However just two years later, Strong returned to the industry as general manager of Moore Restoration, DKI''s Indianapolis-based member company, and in the six years he has been there, he has driven greater than 100 percent top-line revenue growth and been a vocal and active supporter of DKI''s many corporate programs, setting a example for his DKI Member peers.
"The impact Derry has had on the culture of this organization is substantial," said Dale Sailer, current DKI president and Strong’s successor. "As important as the various business initiatives that Derry drove through the company were, his greatest legacy was his role as organizational cheerleader. Derry embraced what being a DKI member really meant, and was truly a market evangelist relative to spreading the DKI story to contractors, insurers, and the various vendors serving the industry. It is that spirit of camaraderie and cooperation that serves as the underpinning to most of our strategies today."
Strong was presented the award at DKI''s National Member Meeting in Las Vegas on May 25, 2010. Denny Jensen and Sailer presented the award.
