FORT WAYNE, IN — Friday is the last day of work for Fort Wayne Community Schools custodians as the outsource company, Sodexo, will take over Monday, according to WANE-TV.
Dennis Taylor, the longest working custodian, has logged 39 years and 2 months with the school district, but was forced into retirement when the school board made their decision to outsource to save money, the article stated.
As he hung up his work shirt Wednesday, he told NewsChannel 15 the hardest part was knowing he gave his all to the school.
"I gave them a lot of my time because they kept cutting our people and kept putting more work on us. I kept going in on Saturday and Sunday on my own time to get the stuff done," Taylor said.
As difficult of a challenge he may have, he said he can''t help but think of so many of his co-workers who are in a much worse spot, the article noted.
According to the article, he knows several people that opted to take a job with Sodexo because they didn''t have any other choice.
