ROCKY HILL, CT — About 23 school custodians work for the town, but they may soon become school employees, according to the Hartford Courant.
The board of education unanimously passed a resolution last week that says the board believes that it — not the town — should oversee the custodians, the article stated.
According to the article, for about 16 years, town workers have maintained the town''s five schools: Before 1993, the board was responsible for maintenance.
"The board should have that duty," said school board Chairman William MacDonald, referring to a state law that gives the responsibility of maintaining school buildings to local and regional school boards.
"Having the board supervise the custodians will improve accountability and allow for proper oversight," MacDonald added.
