Tuesday''s Ask the Experts question from a cleaning professional on the International Custodial Advisors Network (ICAN) "Ask the Experts" page: When a VCT floor needs fixing after it was waxed, does entire floor need to be stripped or can you just strip tiles that are affected?
The answer:
If you are careful with the process you can scrub or strip a small area vs the entire floor or room. Here are some tips:
1. Tape off the area to be worked on with 2 or 4-inch painters tape and put cardboard around it to prevent tracking and to give you clean demarcation line around the work area.
2. Use very little moisture. Light mop or spray on your solution. Don''t forget about proper dwell time and agitation.
3. Use a tarp, cardboard or entry matting as a staging area and to keep your equipment, mops and pails, etc. to prevent drips and tracking on the area you are not intending to work on. Wipe wheels and edges, have several rags available for this purpose. Sloppy workmanship is what will kill... — Bill Griffin, President
