BAKER, LA — The Baker School Board
has passed a motion declaring an emergency at Baker Middle School
because of concerns about mold in more than a dozen classrooms, but it won''t interfere with the start of the school year, according to WAFB-TV.
Superintendent Estes Taplin said despite the mold, students will begin classes on August 11 anyway.
The board''s attorney told school officials the mold doesn''t present a health hazard, the article noted.
According to the article, the emergency declaration grants Taplin the authority to hire a mold remediation contractor without going through the normal bidding process.
