FORT MYERS, FL — An apartment complex maintenance worker may have saved the life of a 2-year-old girl lying on the side of the road, according to the News-Press.
The crash, in which a dairy truck reportedly crushed the back end of a Ford station wagon, sent all four people in the station wagon to the hospital, the article noted.
The toddler, Katia Gool, was taken to a Tampa hospital in critical condition, according to Shelly Flynn, Fort Myers Police Department spokeswoman.
Jay Hernandez, a former firefighter who now works at The Brittany Apartments, rushed across the street from the apartment complex when he heard an accident victim wasn’t breathing, the article stated.
Hernandez performed CPR on the girl and by the time rescue workers arrived, the girl was breathing again and had a pulse, but was still unconscious, the article added.
