Gulf Coast Paper promotes Dibble to top sales post
JanSan distributor Gulf Coast Paper Co. of Victoria, TX, has announced the promotion of Clay Dibble to Vice President/General Sales Manager.

Dibble, who has been Gulf Coast Paper’s Corpus Christi Division Branch Manager for 11 years, will replace Donald Wade later this year.

Wade has worked at Gulf Coast Paper for 37 years in a variety of executive positions.

Asplund Supply names vice president-operations
Pacific Northwest JanSan distributor Asplund Supply Inc. has hired Brooks Laning as vice president-operations.

Laning, who has 25 years of JanSan executive experience, comes to Asplund from Victory Packaging, for whom he was president of the Pacific Northwest region.

The O’Dell Corporation hires three execs
Ware Shoals, SC-based The O’Dell Corporation, a manufacturer of mops, brooms and brushes, has added three people to its headquarters team.

Jerry Goldman is the new manufacturing manager; Tya Hotelling is the new project engineer; and Kevin Fain is the new manager of special projects.

U.S. Products adds sales training manager
JanSan manufacturer U.S. Products of Coeur d’Alene, ID, has hired Bryan Thomson as sales training manager.

Thomson comes to U.S. Products from JanSan manufacturer Turbo Force International, where he was vice president of sales.

Spruce Industries hires general manager
JanSan distributor Spruce Industries Inc. of Garwood, NJ, has hired Daniel Josephs as general manager.

Josephs brings computer engineering and Internet experience to his new position at the 45-year-old firm.

Malish Corp. adds VP/operations
Willoughby, OH-based JanSan manufacturer The Malish Corporation has named Gordon Overs as vice president of operations.

Overs, a graduate of Michigan State University, comes to Malish after working as vice president of operations at Premix Inc.

NJSSA elects 2007 officers
The New Jersey Sanitary Supply Association (NJSSA) recently elected the following board officers for 2007:
  • President — Fred Schimanski of Clean Smart/Select Wholesalers Inc., South Plainfield, NJ
  • Vice president — Peter Davidson of Leading Edge Associates, Old Bethpage, NY
  • Treasurer — Patrick Amato of Premier Marketing Associates, Howell, NJ
  • Secretary — Darren Slosberg of Legacy Converting, Paterson, NJ.
Schimanski will be serving his third one-year term as board president.

SDA adds three to board
JanSan trade association The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) elected three industry executives to its board of directors at its recent meeting.

The three new board members are: Kevin Gallagher, president, Croda Inc; John Venegoni, vice president and general manager of surfactants, Stepan Company; and William Littlefield, vice president and general manager of laundry, Unilever US.

ISSA begins case studies for industry management standard
ISSA has chosen 24 building service contractors and in-house cleaning departments to participate in case studies for the trade group’s Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) certification.

The 24 organizations will be the first to undergo individual assessments in hopes of becoming certified to the cleaning industry’s new consensus-based management standard.

The standard does not specify products or cleaning techniques that must be used, but outlines five areas of best management practices for cleaning organizations: Quality systems; service delivery; human resources; health, safety and environmental stewardship; and management commitment.

The case study participants are: Bee-Clean Building Maintenance, Edmonton, AB; Better Business Cleaning, Inc., Louisville, CO; Horizon Services Corporation, East Hartford, CT; IBS Services Group, New York, NY; IH Services, Greenville, SC; KIMCO Corp., Norridge, IL; K-Tech Kleening Systems, Weston, WI; Magic Touch Cleaning, Lee’s Summit, MO; McFarland Hanson Inc., Anoka, MN.

ISSA moves 2008 show to Vegas
In other ISSA news, the trade association has decided to move its 2008 ISSA/INTERCLEAN® North America trade show to Las Vegas.

The show will be from September 8 to 11 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, with exhibit days set for Tuesday, September 9, through Thursday, September 11.

According to ISSA, holding the event in Las Vegas will provide exhibitors with lower drayage, labor, electricity and accommodations costs.

Tennant buys Floorep
JanSan manufacturer Tennant Company of Minneapolis has acquired Floorep Ltd., a cleaning equipment company headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland.

The acquisition of Floorep, which has sales of about $5.6 million a year, expands Tennant’s customer base in the United Kingdom by about 25 percent.

Tacony acquires Tornado
St. Louis-based Tacony Corporation has acquired JanSan manufacturer Tornado Industries Inc.

Tornado, which makes and markets vacuums, floor scrubbers, burnishers, propane floor cleaners, sweepers, pressure washers, steam cleaners and carpet care equipment, will remain in Chicago under the leadership of Michael Schaffer and Gary Cirone, its current CEO/president and executive vice president, respectively.

Bravo buys Brener
Piscataway, NJ-based building service contractor (BSC) Bravo Group Services has acquired BSC Brener Building Maintenance of Alexandria, VA, for an undisclosed amount.

Brener, a 47-year-old firm founded by William Brener, has contracts for more than 7 million square feet, mostly in the corporate and health care sectors. With the acquisition, Bravo now has cleaning and/or maintenance contracts for more than 30 million square feet from New York to Virginia.

Waxie acquires Denver distributor
JanSan distributor Waxie Sanitary Supply of San Diego has acquired Denver-based distributor Midwest Chemical & Supply.

Colorado operations of the merged companies will be conducted under Waxie’s name at a new facility at 5025-C Florence St., Denver.

State to outlaw paradichlorobenzene
In order to reduce ozone levels, the state of Ohio will essentially outlaw paradichlorobenzene, which is widely used to deodorize public urinals.

The changes proposed by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency are designed to limit volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which contribute to ozone.

Most of the changes involve reformulating products to reduce VOCs, but paradichlorobenzene would be banned outright, resulting in what one urinal cake manufacturer said would be worse-smelling public restrooms.

Rubbermaid notes safety milestone
Winchester, VA-based JanSan manufacturer Rubbermaid Commercial Products recently celebrated a significant safety milestone at its Winchester manufacturing, distribution and office facility — 1 million employee-hours without a lost-time accident.
