CHICAGO – The Chicago Tribune has ranked W. W. Grainger, Inc. (NYSE: GWW) 6th among large companies on its Top Workplaces 2010 list which was published today in a special supplement of the newspaper. The Tribune recognized 100 companies in the Chicago area as top places to work based on employee feedback. Grainger is the leading broad line supplier of maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) products serving businesses and institutions.
"We are honored to be named among the top places to work in Chicago,” said Grainger Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, James T. The Grainger ranking was based on a workplace survey conducted by the Chicago Tribune and Workplace Dynamics that gathered feedback from a sampling of Grainger employees in the Chicago area earlier this year. The survey asked respondents to rank Grainger on many dimensions including the opportunities, tools, resources, recognition, benefits and support the company offered them.
Grainger was founded in 1927 in Chicago and has 24 locations – including its headquarters, a distribution center and several branches – in the Chicago area. Of the company’s 18,000 employees, almost 3,500 are located here.

It is great that we are recognized as a top workplace in the city where we began our operations. By focusing on common goals and working across the business to best serve customers and each other, we have a great place to work – not just in Chicago but across the globe,” said Ryan.
