TROY, NY — Mayor Harry Tutunjian faces another battle over knocking down the former City Hall after the state issued three violations for the city not removing asbestos before starting demolition, according to the Times Union.
The fight will be over the old city hall at 1 Monument Square where the state Department of Labor issued three notices of violation for the city''s failure to perform the asbestos abatement, the article stated.
"It still has to be abated or removed before demolition," said Leo Rosales, a spokesman for the state Department of Labor.
The state has not set a fine for the violations, and the city has the right to appeal, the article noted.
According to the article, city officials said they weren''t demolishing the building but simply undertaking exploratory work in preparation for the asbestos abatement.
