COLLINSVILLE, IL — The owners of an apartment complex are being sued by a tenant who claims her husband discovered mold and sewage in the air vent leading to their unit, according to the Madison Record.

April Redding, who claims to have developed lymph node problems while inhabiting the apartment, is blaming the eight inches of black water, mold and other toxic substances found by her husband for her ailments, the story stated.

According to the story, the defendants, Danny and Kimberly Gatton, allegedly attempted to hide the problem by placing a plastic bag over the vent in question.

Redding is seeking more than $200,000 in the matter, accusing the Gattons of negligently failing to maintain their property, failing to inspect the unit and notify its occupants and neglecting to inform authorities of any problems, the story noted.

The complaint was filed in Madison County Circuit Court on February 7, the story added.
