Legionnaires' disease outbreak largest in Ohio since 2004

DAYTON, OH — Miami Valley Hospital confirmed its tenth case of Legionnaires'' disease Thursday, making the outbreak the largest in Ohio in nearly seven years, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Confirmation of another case came as hospital officials expressed hope all those infected have begun exhibiting symptoms and the number of new cases would diminish, the article noted.

The hospital also confirmed a single case of Pontiac fever, a milder infection caused by the same type of Legionella bacteria responsible for Legionnaires'' disease, the article stated.
