ORLANDO — The future of hotel bills could include additional fees for housekeeping, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Hotels outside of the U.S. have already begun charging guests for housekeeping and other amenities like extra towels, the article noted.

While American hotels may seem hesitant to follow suit, some have already begun to offer certain incentives and discounts to guests who decline housekeeping services, the article stated.

According to the article, the first step in decreasing housekeeping frequency is allowing guests to opt out of the service themselves.

The hotel industry will no doubt argue that housekeeping is an expense and not necessarily part of the room being occupied; however, guests may see mandatory housekeeping charges as a grab for money, the article added.
