University of Pennsylvania buildings earn LEED Gold

PHILADELPHIA — Two recently renovated buildings at the University of Pennsylvania have earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), according to a press release.

The two buildings are the School of Arts and Sciences'' Music Building and Joe''s Café, located in the Wharton School''s Steinberg-Dietrich Hall, the release noted.

School of Arts and Sciences'' Music Building was originally designed to meet LEED Silver standards by incorporating things like efficient lighting and passive storm water management techniques, the release stated.

According to the release, Joe''s Café, designed by Voith & Mactavish Architects LLP, was awarded LEED certification for its commercial interior renovation, foodservice practices, recycling, composting and chemical-free cleaning methods.
