KNOXVILLE, TN — Knox County schools could divide janitorial services between current staff and an outside company, or outsource the entire operation, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

The two options will be looked at by school officials to determine if the districts can save money for the 2011-2012 academic year, the article noted.

According to Superintendent Jim McIntyre, if some or all of the cleaning services were to be subcontracted out, the schools could be looking at savings of more than $1 million.

Board members are, however, split on the idea with some remaining unconvinced, while others believe the idea deserves a closer look, the article stated.
