OSHKOSH, WI — The green parade that ramps up each Earth Week is fully underway, according to The Oshkosh Northwestern.

The city of Oshkosh has lined up numerous environmentally friendly activities, including planting trees, installing rain barrels and cleaning up the riverfront, the article stated.

Recycling has also become more popular, thanks in part to a new state mandate, the article noted.

According to the article, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UW-Oshkosh) announced Tuesday that the campus finished first in the state and 14th in the nation in the Recyclemania Challenge, a contest that measures campuses'' trash versus recyclables rates.

After the campus started using single-stream recycling, Oshkosh saw a 27 percent increase in recyclables collections between fall 2009 and fall 2010, the article added.
