LONDON — On April 19, Earth Day launched a Facebook application aimed at engaging people on the issue of climate change, according to The Independent.

The application, called A Billion Acts of Green, aims to collect pledges from Facebook users that will then be presented at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012, the article stated.

According to the article, any individual or business can make a pledge, which could include things like "using less electricity," "not using plastic bags" and "recycling more."

Users of the Facebook application have already made a variety of pledges including "pick up the next piece of trash I see," "grow a garden that''s completely organic" and simply "not litter," the article noted.
