SPOKANE, WA — Leginonella bacteria, which is the cause of Legionnaires disease, has been found in three tested patients in Sacred Heart Hospital, reported The Spokesman-Review.
While the bacteria was thought to be isolated to only two patients in January, it was found in a third last month, according to the article.
Until the source of the bacteria can be found the facility is switching to bottled water, and continuously flushing the tanks with the possibility of replacing older ones, the article stated.
Only one of the patients with the bacteria died, however it was due to her age and a number of other medical issues, the article reported.
