PHOENIX — As Arizona State University (ASU) makes the transition to contract cleaning, nearly 200 custodians will lose their jobs, according to KPHO-TV.

In order to reduce the budget, facilities management in buildings at ASU''s Tempe and West campuses will transition to 100 percent contract cleaning, the article stated.

According to the article, the move will result in layoffs for 181 custodians on the Tempe campus and 10 custodians on the West campus.

Each custodian affected by the transition will be offered a position with the incoming business partner vendor, the article noted.

According to officials, ASU can save nearly $1.6 million by utilizing janitorial business partners to provide all custodial services, the article added.
