ATLANTA — Pest control company Orkin has released a statement in regards to a recent bedbug study, according to a press release.
A study published in Emerging Infectious Diseases reported that Canadian scientists detected drug-resistant staph bacteria in bedbugs from three hospital patients, the release stated.
According to the release, Orkin reminds people that there is no evidence at this point that bedbugs have ever transmitted disease to humans.
Orkin stated that, while two types of drug-resistant bacteria were found, the study was very small and isolated, conducted in an impoverished community in Vancouver, British Columbia, testing a very small sampling of bedbugs collected from a few patients who were hospitalized for unstated causes, the release noted.
Orkin stresses the importance of having the right information in the fight against the growing problem of bedbugs, the release added.
