LASALLE, IL — Lincoln School held a day of appreciation last week for long-time custodian Edward Nestler, according to the News Tribune.
Nestler, or "Red," who will retire from his position as custodian on June 30, was treated to a lunch in his honor last week before being presented with a surprise, the article stated.
According to the article, after receiving a petition from students and staff, the school board voted to name the school gymnasium in his honor.
"He did everything," said Principal Kim Lisanby-Barber.
"If he thinks the weather''s bad, he''ll come over here and check to make sure everything''s all right with the school. He goes above and beyond the call of duty," Lisanby-Barber added.
Though his name will remain on the school''s gymnasium wall, Nestler plans to spend his new free time with his family, the article noted.
