BRONX, NY — A former Bronx custodian is accused of scamming the Department of Education out of $500,000, according to the New York Daily News.

Trifon Radef, 75, was charged yesterday with using city funds to pay workers who were renovating properties he owned in Queens, the article stated.

According to the article, Radef and four others have been charged by federal prosecutors for running a pair of schemes to defraud the city.

Radef is accused of getting paid for working at Roosevelt High School when he was actually at home or various social clubs, the article noted.

Radef and Nicanor Fernandez, a former Truman High School custodian, are also accused of signing off on time sheets for no-show workers, allowing them to still be paid, the article added.
