STAMFORD, CT — After being challenged on the issue, the Board of Education is allowed to negotiate with the custodians'' union, according to The Daily Stamford.

The school board has the right to negotiate with the custodians because they are employed by the schools, which falls under the Municipal Employee Relations Act, the article stated.

According to the article, city representatives Randall Skigen and Mary Fedeli challenged the school board''s authority to negotiate with custodians after the board submitted a letter from Mayor Michael Pavia allowing the negotiations to take place.
