SAN ANTONIO, TX — Ahtna Facility Services Inc. of Anchorage has lost their lucrative cleaning contract at Camp Bullis, according to the San Antonio Express News.

The company has been responsible for cleaning and other maintenance tasks at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) and other health care facilities around Camp Bullis, the article stated.

According to the article, the loss of contract prompted Ahtna to tell the state that they would be forced to permanently layoff around 434 workers, most of which are housekeepers and floor care technicians.

However, under the terms of a collective-bargaining agreement, the winner of the new contract will become the workers’ new employer, the article noted.

"There will be no mass layoffs," said BAMC spokesman Dewey Mitchell.
