Study: Dirty restrooms lead to lost business

CINCINNATI — A recent Cintas Corporation survey conducted by Harris Interactive revealed that 94 percent of U.S. adults would avoid a business in the future if they encountered dirty restrooms, according to a press release.

"Dirty restrooms cost businesses lost sales, customers, referrals and repeat business," said Mike Thompson, senior vice president of Cintas Facility Services.

"This study reaffirms that if customers are not satisfied with the state of a restroom, they will take their business elsewhere," Thompson added.

According to the release, when asked what specific types of businesses they would avoid if they encountered dirty restrooms, 79 percent said restaurants; 77 percent said health care facilities; and 45 percent said retail stores.

"To satisfy customers, businesses must ensure restrooms are consistently stocked, clean, dry and functioning," explained Dave Mesko, senior director of marketing for Cintas.

''Partnering with Cintas for a restroom cleaning and maintenance program enables businesses to improve cleanliness and customer satisfaction," Mesko added.
