JEFFERSONVILLE, IN — While the Clark County Building Authority Board has not completely ruled out privatization, the idea is nearly dead, according to the News and Tribune.
The idea to outsource cleaning services for the building authority was presented in mid-July, with the idea that the county could save as much as $300,000 a year, the article stated.
According to the article, the building authority currently has a staff of seven, all of which would be fired and replaced by three contracted workers.
However, Building Authority Director Mark Van Gilder doesn''t believe the building could not be maintained with two workers and a supervisor, the article noted.
"You can''t clean this building with two people," said Van Gilder.
"Two people cannot clean 132,000 square feet. The city of Jeffersonville has a 30,000-square-foot building and uses three people to clean the building. That right there tells me something."
